Another large digital display that broadcasts many different messages into a highly trafficked environment

As of summer 2007, this was posted. A start, but far from taking the 100 year old NYC subway system into the 21st century.
And I've noticed that the clocks have rarely been accurate when I have visited the station.

Confusing signs when each side of the subway platform means trains going in opposite directions, not both going to 8th ave

Is this the best use for such large scale technology that influences thousands of people per week? Imagination has left the building.

Technical difficulties with the bottom monitor but another example of potential "public media intelligence" at stations

Large, un-interactive, dominating digital signs without much creative use + stock ticker, a narrow agenda broadcasted publically. Private property used for the public eye.

INSPIRING REDUNDANCY
In some cases, over 60 blocks away from each other, the same looping media was playing
on the public monitors near the subway stations..more technical difficulties with this one.

Again, is this the best NYC can do for using digital signs? Certainly not.
And why stop with only providing the time? Time is the beginning, what do we want our digital future to become?

Yes, of all the possibilities for using this fantastic massive double-screen, it's looping commericals for watches via ice skating.
Timing in everything.

Madison Square Garden informs the public of what to expect in the future inside its facility through digital technology.

Touchscreen Interface for the machine where people purchase "metrocards" to gain access to the subway station entrances

I posted this photo to imagine more ideas of using the touchscreen throughout
your city or use of a mobile phone as a remote control for media screens like the Japanese photo below
